Immigrant children account for 36.7% of the population of children in Calgary.
ISCC’s c.a.r.e. for Ethnocultural Children and Youth seeks to find solutions to the challenges children and youth of immigrant families are facing. c.a.r.e.’s vision is that “children and youth of immigrant families in Calgary will achieve equitable levels of academic, community involvement and vocational success comparable to the general population of children and youth.”
c.a.r.e. focuses on four areas:
- Strengthening cultural competencies of service-providers that work with children and youth of immigrant families;
- Improving accessibility, alignment, and coordination of services;
- Conducting, accessing, and promoting research to inform policies and practices; and
- Strengthening relationships with education systems to enhance the development of children and youth.
